U16's Norfolk Plate Winners 2010-11

The players celebrating after winning the U16's Norfolk Plate Final on Sunday (27 March)
Lowestoft & Yarmouth U16’s 47 – Swaffham U16’s 7
Lowestoft & Yarmouth RFC under 16’s experienced the sweet taste of success last Sunday when they became the inaugural winners of the new U16’s Norfolk Plate competition. Their triumph was made all the sweeter by the commanding manner in which they claimed this honour.
On a perfect day for playing rugby, the L&Y lads continued their recently much improved form and totally overwhelmed a shell-shocked Swaffham side.
“Seal of Approval” Club of the year
Lowestoft & Yarmouth Rugby Club are achieving success at all levels, following on from the current league success of the 1st XV the Under 16’s beat a strong Fakenham side 38 points to 10 at Gunton Park in the semi-final of the Norfolk Plate Completion. They are now due to play Swaffham in the Final on the 27th March 2011 (11am kick off).
The Club has also achieved a national accolade by winning the R.F.U.’s President Award of “Seal of Approval” Club of the year.
The “Seal of Approval” is a charter mark awarded by the R.F.U. and Sport England.
This is a marvellous achievement for a small club from the East Coast and is testimony to the work that the club has done trying to make Rugby available to all and their work in encouraging young volunteer coaches.
The club will now be representing Rugby in the competition for all sports “Charter Mark Club” of the year.
We are always looking to recruit new players, volunteers and coaches. We particularly need coaches to assist with our continuing expanding club. Full training is provided.
We would also like to thank our sponsors. We are always looking for new sponsors to assist, amongst other things, with the purchase of a mini-bus. One of the areas covered by the above award was a program we ran that provided a hired mini-bus to bring young children to the club for training and matches from areas where they would not normally be able to access the sport.
Anyone interested in helping out at any level should contact.

Joshua Williamson gains Eastern Counties honour.
Joshua Williamson is the latest Lowestoft & Yarmouth RUFC player to represent Eastern Counties.
Josh, who plays for the L&Y U17 side made his debut on Sunday 30th January, against the Yorkshire county side at Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club.
Josh has played at L&Y since the age of eight and would like to express his thanks to all the coaches that have help develop his game during that time. He would especially like to thank Steve Durrant, Club Coaching Co-ordinator, for his encouragement and his faith in nominating him for Eastern Counties’ and Jerry Stone & Anthony Norman for their assistance in travelling to the trials.
