Lowestoft and Yarmouth Junior Rugby Club Achieve their Seal of Approval Charter Mark
This week (13th August 2010) after a lot of hard work by the Coaches, Committee, Parents, Volunteers and Players, the Junior Club of Lowestoft and Yarmouth R.F.C. have been informed that they have achieved Charter Mark Status and will be awarded their Seal of Approval.

What is Seal of Approval?
The RFU introduced the Mini and Youth Seal of Approval accreditation programme in 2002 as a method of examining, maintaining and improving the provision of rugby in the mini and youth section of a rugby club. Building upon current good practice, the accreditation aims to recognise the effort and achievement of those clubs that reach, maintain and improve on the required standard of a club committed to the provision of quality rugby union experiences for young players.

The Seal of Approval award
The Seal of Approval and the Sport England Clubmark accreditation scheme are based upon a three-year rolling award system in which a club will be assessed on its continuing ability to provide a safe and effective club environment.
A club will qualify in the first year by the completion of the assessment file and the writing of a three-year development plan. By implementing the development plan, with an annual review, a club will continue to be accredited and ensure continuous improvement in provision for the players at the club.
The award will be indicative of the quality of provision a club offers, and its commitment to the continued development and growth of rugby. A club will receive certification to confirm accreditation, both from the RFU and Sport England.
This is a great achievement for the Club and the Local Community.

Young people who are interested in playing Rugby 5 to 12 for girls and 5 to 17 for boys (non contact 5 to 9 yrs) should attend the signing on day 11.00am on the 5th September 2010. This will be a fun day with B&Q and bouncy castles. Please see the website www.lowestoftandyarmouthrfc.com or contact Jerry Stone Chair of the Junior Club on jerrystone7@btinternet.com or 0797 145 7050. The club is always looking to recruit volunteers to assist with coaching, managing or administrative help. No experience is needed as full training will be provided.

Jerry Stone (Youth Chairperson) announces D of E award scheme

I am please to announce that following a meeting with Norfolk C.C. Lowestoft and Yarmouth Junior Rugby Club will become what is believed to be the first Rugby Football Club in the country to become a providor of the Duke of Edingburgh Award Scheme.
This agreement is a major event it means that the club will be a providor of D Of E at all levels.
In order to achieve the D of E Bronze and Silver awards young people aged 14 to
25 years have to take part in the a number of activities these are; Taking part in sport, which the young people can do this by playing Rugby.
They have to take part in voluntary work which can be achieved through the clubs Young Volunteer Coaching scheme where the young people assist in coaching the younger members of the club. The club will also be sponsoring them to achieve coaching qualifications.
They have to learn a skill and the club will be running young referees courses which will count for this.
They also have to take part in an Expedition, the club will be doing this in partnership with Norfolk C.C.
This builds on the Clubs achievement of Seal of Approval and is a great way of retaining people in the Sport even if they do not wish to play anymore they can Referee of Coach.
In this day and age when jobs are difficult to find qualifications such as the D of E can be a major attraction to employers.
It also first in with the core values of Rugby; Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment,Discipline and Sportsmanship.

Recognition for voluntary helpers

We were pleased to welcome Lee Adamson from the Rugby Football Union to the Club to present three of our outstanding volunteers; Anthony Norman, Colin Page and Kelly Hills with V.I.P. ties and a scarf from the RFU to thank them for there voluntary work at the Club.

Antony RFU

Anthony is an incredible enthusiastic coach who has driven the Mini’s section forward and seen great growth in his age group, he shows selfless personal commitment to rugby.

Colin
Colin Page as you may know was the Chair of the Junior Club prior to me and did and excellent job of growing the Youth and Mini’s Committee. The weight of other work that he carries out at the Club (for which we are all very grateful) meant he could no long continue in the role of Chair.

Kelly Hills took on the onerous job of child welfare officer and has done an exemplary job of dealing with all of the new policies and seal of approval.

CLUB CAPTAIN - RUSSELL WILKINSON

Russ Wilkinson

Russ has taken on the very important job as Club Captain. His main duty will be as liaison between players and committee. If anyone has a gripe then let Russ know and he will address the situation at the monthly committee meetings.

Russ first played for L&Y some years ago and returned to the game he loves after injury had kept

him out for some considerable time. He returned to enjoy his "social rugby" with the lower placed sides and with the occasional run out for the veterans. Last season he found his way back into the 1st XV following some excellent performances for the 2nds. He is currently training hard to retain his place this coming season. His favoured position is lock but he can also play in the back row.

Russ is a very welcome addition to the committee.
