Lowestoft & Yarmouth RUFC feature on the RFU web site

President’s XV prize winners Lowestoft & Yarmouth RFC are grabbing attention with a batch of new ideas to build on their success in the annual awards for outstanding work by volunteers.

This thriving club on the Norfolk-Suffolk border was presented with £500 and a winner’s trophy after being named the 2011 Seal of Approval Club of the Year in the prestigious awards, supported by business insurer QBE.

The prize went to the club’s burgeoning junior section at the same time as the men’s first team was celebrating promotion to London League 2 North East.

Nelson's column

Nelson Column for the 2010/2011 Season

It is with great pleasure that I can report to you all that Lowestoft and Yarmouth have secured promotion to London League 2 North East.

I cannot be happier with this season especially when all the lads involved have been local boys. It is testament to all involved after the disappointment of last season’s campaign we have grown as players and I believe that if we can take the same attitude and squad into next season we have a real chance of doing well. With new recruits this season only being Tom Dare coming up through the youth system and Dave Palmer moving back to the area. It was a big boost to the side having Russell Chapman return after missing all of last season and it’s great that he has come back stronger.

A couple of thank you's need to be made. Our physio Phil has done a good job keeping the boys on the pitch and with a turnover of only 28 players in the 1st team squad this shows his credentials. The supporters who week in week out sacrifice their Saturday afternoon to watch us play at home and on our travels to exotic locations (Mersea Island, Campion). To Colin and bar staff for always making sure we celebrate in style and mainly I thank every single squad member for making this a very successful season for Lowestoft and Yarmouth RUFC.

Now for next season London 2 rugby!!! On the recruitment front we have managed to entice a former International and professional player to join us not only by pulling the jersey on but by taking up the role of Rugby Development Officer. Dave Tiueti is a former Osprey player of the season and has been capped for Tonga 21 times. Dave will be moving with his family from Wales and will be here in time for pre-season and I'm sure we are all going to learn a lot from him.

Pre-season training will resume Tuesday 9th June and I hope to see you all there for plenty of fitness.
